Spain
Spain has 42 operating data centers in our registry, and we estimate 794 MW of data center capacity in the country. About 561 MW of that is colocation and hyperscale capacity we track directly.

Spain is one of Europe’s fastest-emerging data center markets, with Madrid as its main hub and the region of Aragón attracting large-scale hyperscale campuses. Abundant solar and wind generation and one of Europe’s most developed markets for power purchase agreements are key draws.

Aragón has designated data centers as projects of regional interest, allowing fast-tracked permitting that can override local planning rules. At the national level, a draft royal decree would make grid access for data centers above 1 MW conditional on covering 80% of their load with new renewables, matched hourly, alongside a PUE limit of 1.15 and water consumption conditions. As elsewhere in the EU, data centers must also report their efficiency and renewable share.
