Italy is a growing data center market centered on Milan, with a secondary cluster around Rome. Rising demand for cloud and AI services has brought a wave of new project announcements, making it one of the faster-growing markets in Southern Europe.

The grid operator Terna reports 101 GW of connection applications but expects only 1.5–2 GW of data center capacity to materialize by 2030, pointing to significant speculation. Decree 21/2026 consolidates environmental and administrative permits into a single process with a 10-month limit for approval, extendable to 13 months, and halves the time for environmental impact assessments.
