France
France has 85 operating data centers in our registry, and we estimate 1 182 MW of data center capacity in the country. About 865 MW of that is colocation and hyperscale capacity we track directly.

France is one of Europe’s core data center markets, with Paris forming part of the established FLAP-D group of hubs alongside Frankfurt, London, Amsterdam and Dublin. A low-carbon, largely nuclear power system and a proactive planning approach have made it one of the most active markets for new large-scale projects.

The transmission operator RTE has pre-allocated 18 GW of grid capacity for data centers and is moving to a first-ready, first-served connection principle in 2026, with a fast track for strategic projects and the option to reduce connection capacity that goes unused. Under “Project Giga”, EDF offers powered data center sites – initially up to 2 GW of grid-connected plots with an electricity supply offer – and electro-intensive data centers that meet efficiency thresholds qualify for a reduced electricity tax (TICFE).
